But did you know you can get free consumer credit counseling services whose goal is to help you become debt free? It's true. You are poised to learn all about the credit services and how you can comparison-shop among them to make sure you are making the right decision.
Becoming Debt Free with Free Consumer Credit Counseling Services
When it comes to free consumer credit counseling services, there are as many options for getting out of debt as there are different types of debt. Once you complete our secure online questionnaire and submit it, you will be enabling our credit counselors to review your situation and make recommendations to you about how to get rid of your debt problems. These recommendations could be anything from some light credit counseling to debt settlement or anything in between. To help you out, we've explained some of the different plans offered by free consumer credit counseling services below:
- One of the options a consumer credit counseling service may recommend is debt consolidation, whereby a debt counselor will contact your creditors on your behalf to get you lower interest rates and lower monthly payments. In some cases, they can even get past junk fees removed. Then they bundle all of your payments together into one. You then make one payment to the credit counseling service, and they distribute it among your creditors. Since your interest rates are lower, more of the money from your payment goes toward your original debt, not the accumulated interest; therefore, your debt is paid in around five years instead of the 18-20 it would take if you just made the minimum required monthly payments.
- Another option is a debt consolidation loan, which requires collateral and usually good credit. Under this option, you choose a credit counseling company and they pay off all your unsecured debts (or they give you a check to do that). Then you make one monthly payment to the credit counseling company. The advantage to this, again, is that you are paying a much, much lower interest rate, so your debt gets paid off in about five years.
- Still another option is debt settlement. Under this plan a free consumer credit counseling service contacts your creditors and negotiates on your behalf so that you end up paying 35-50 cents on the dollar instead of the full amount of your debt. Your creditors then consider the debt paid in full, and you've obviously saved hundreds, maybe even thousands of dollars. The bad thing is that you usually have to have this amount paid off in full in one to three years. If you can't come up with a big lump sum of money in that time frame, you may want to choose another option.
- A final option we want to tell you about is a debt consolidation mortgage. This is an options that allows homeowners to borrow from the equity in their homes to pay off their unsecured debts. Again, the interest rate is lower, but your house is your collateral, so if you think you'll miss payments, don't choose this option because you could lose your house.
These are just a few of the free credit counseling programs available. And, in addition to providing these programs, free credit counseling services also provide you with a credit education of sorts by teaching you how credit works, how to use it wisely and how to budget so that once you get debt free, you can stay debt free.
